This channel, creative entity, second full time job, was created out of frustration. Frustration at watching things deteriorate over the last decade or more. I’ve been a news / media junkie my entire life. Whether they deserved it or not is debatable, but I used to trust our news sources. As a kid I remember staying up for Johnny Carson’s monologue nearly every night. I remember my Mom picking me up from school the afternoon Reagan was shot and rushing home to watch the coverage. I remember watching the coverage as the US bombed Libya in 1986. Peter Jennings at the Berlin Wall in 1989. 9/11/2001 glued to the TV for multiple days in shock. Brokaw, Couric, Gumbel, Rather. These were names you could trust. Right?
That’s what I thought. Same with our government. They are there to protect us. Right? We are a government for the people, and by the people. Right? As we keep learning, it’s not been that for a long time. But I was naïve. Even though there were voices saying don’t let them pass the Patriot Act, eventually they will turn it around on Americans, I supported it.
Then came 2016. Then 2020. The lies just compounded. The media landscape changed, and the once powerful broadcast media had competition. So social media, our government, and the broadcast media combined forces and decided what you could and couldn’t discuss. Now we get the, oh sorry, yeah, you all were right all along. Too late. But we still hear that term, misinformation, constantly thrown around. They aren't done trying.
So what is the goal of this channel. To point and laugh at all of these entities. To show the absurdity. To show that we, the people, still do have some power, and knowledge is the first step. It’s why my initial interest in the Karen Read case. However you feel about Turtleboy, he brought attention to this trial, he brought attention to the fact that the state has some very dubious evidence. Now that the trial is going on, it’s time for that story to be told. So, tune out the side show and focus on what is important.
More to follow. We’re just getting started. I have a lot more to say. About all the things.
