This is the Locals community for the web series Mistakes Were Made. The show follows the antics and escapades of the newly formed Bureau Undermining Misinformation (BUM) as they battle online untruths, and their rivals in an adjacent government agency.
The show also follows the civilians that get wrapped up in the government plots to entrap, or, protect it's citizens. Can opposites attract, can government agency really get away with this, and do surveillance vans with windows really work?

Airbnb - how it all started

Ever wonder how the original conversation went, when the idea came to start the first room/home sharing bed and breakfast company? I do, with a lot of weed. Who else but stoners would come up with an idea that people would pay a company for the privilege of renting out their own house?

Join us as we tackle some of the strange concepts in the home/room sharing industry in our own, unique way. From parties and damage to the crazy concept of reviews, we crack the code on that original conversation, or at least how we envision it.

This weeks video

Here is video update #6, posted early on Locals. The trial of MA vs Karen Read is one of the most absurd things in legal history. This week was no exception. We might never know what actually happened to Officer John O'Keefe, but it was not what Massachusetts says it was. There is just no way.

I have been horrible keeping up here. I'm sorry, It's hard to keep up with everything and try and do a full time job, but we're still plugging away. I'll add some more stuff this weekend.

Ready for Northland Friday Night

It's almost Friday. Ready for the weekend, but first we must have Northland Friday Night.

We'll have a premiere of our Airbnb skit we recorded last week, and edited live online last night. We'll also go through some of the reddit and other internet posts that prompted this little skit.

We'll also look at all the updates in the Karen Read case. Things keep getting interesting there. All building up to the 22nd of July and the hearing.

We'll also take a look at the first few days of the Alec Baldwin trial. We're also going to compare current day, or even last decade or so, Alec Baldwin to 1988 Adam Maitland (Beetlejuice) Alec Baldwin. I'm still not convinced that is the same person. It can't be. I know what IMDB says, I'm still not convinced.

So we'll see you Friday night. 11:00PM EST or better yet, 7:00PM Alaska time. Come hang out.

This week's schedule

What a big day. So much news comes out all at once. We were anticipating the Proctor hearing, but the two motions this morning. Wow, such big news. When we first heard about the hung jury, I wasn't shocked. I knew it was a possibility, especially considering how cumbersome that jury form for the 2nd charge was. I knew there was a chance that there were some folks on the jury that would think because the State brought charges, someone did something. Did I expect it to be 8-4, no way.

So tomorrow night we're going to do go back and review the FBI hired experts testimony. We're going to take a critical look at it and see where a juror could see some ambiguity and think there was not a reasonable doubt that she committed a crime. Obviously it wasn't as convincing as we thought.

Wednesday is editing night. We filmed our AirBNB skit the other night, and keeping with tradition, we're going to edit it live. Why not, figure that is something unique. Maybe, eventually, if and when we are able to get ...

You're getting the attention you asked for.

This channel, creative entity, second full time job, was created out of frustration. Frustration at watching things deteriorate over the last decade or more. I’ve been a news / media junkie my entire life. Whether they deserved it or not is debatable, but I used to trust our news sources. As a kid I remember staying up for Johnny Carson’s monologue nearly every night. I remember my Mom picking me up from school the afternoon Reagan was shot and rushing home to watch the coverage. I remember watching the coverage as the US bombed Libya in 1986. Peter Jennings at the Berlin Wall in 1989. 9/11/2001 glued to the TV for multiple days in shock. Brokaw, Couric, Gumbel, Rather. These were names you could trust. Right?

That’s what I thought. Same with our government. They are there to protect us. Right? We are a government for the people, and by the people. Right? As we keep learning, it’s not been that for a long time. But I was naïve. Even though there were voices saying don’t let them pass the Patriot Act, eventually they will turn it around on Americans, I supported it.

Then came 2016. Then 2020. The lies just compounded. The media landscape changed, and the once powerful broadcast media had competition. So social media, our government, and the broadcast media combined forces and decided what you could and couldn’t discuss. Now we get the, oh sorry, yeah, you all were right all along. Too late. But we still hear that term, misinformation, constantly thrown around. They aren't done trying.

So what is the goal of this channel. To point and laugh at all of these entities. To show the absurdity. To show that we, the people, still do have some power, and knowledge is the first step. It’s why my initial interest in the Karen Read case. However you feel about Turtleboy, he brought attention to this trial, he brought attention to the fact that the state has some very dubious evidence. Now that the trial is going on, it’s time for that story to be told. So, tune out the side show and focus on what is important.

More to follow. We’re just getting started. I have a lot more to say. About all the things.
